| This medical illustration series shows lumbar spine surgery at L5-S1 with an anterior discectomy (diskectomy) and BAK fusion. The drawing on the left pictures intense lower back pain radiating down the left leg from a disc herniation causing spinal nerve impingement in the lower back.
