Right Femoral Neck Fracture with Surgical Fixation - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This exhibit begins with an anterior skeletal view of the right hip depicting the pre-operative condition. The angulated, displaced intertrochanteric fracture of the right femoral neck is illustrated in graphic detail based upon pre-operative x-rays. An actual x-ray appears as an inset. Next, four steps of the repair procedure are illustrated in graphic detail based on operative dictation from the procedure. These images include the incision over the right hip, drilling of the intertrochanteric region, and placement of a Synthes femoral nail and locking screws. Each illustration provides the viewer with the surgeon's perspective of the operation at key steps during the procedure. Actual incision sites, instrumentation and operative techniques have been recreated with attention to precise details from the particular procedure and surgeon. The exhibit is both educational in its clarification of the operative details, as well as dramatic in its presentation of the appearance of the operative field.
